Less Of Me

May 31, 2026    Pastor Steven Nolen

In Luke 5, Peter had worked all night and caught nothing. He was tired, disappointed, and had empty nets. But when Jesus stepped into his boat and told him to launch out into the deep, Peter responded with obedience: “But at Your word I will let down the nets.”

What happened next was more than a miracle of fish. It was a revelation of Jesus.

Peter’s obedience led to blessing.

The blessing led to repentance.

Repentance led to calling.

And calling led to surrender.

When Peter saw the great catch, he did not make it about himself. He fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” The deeper Peter went, the lower he bowed.

This message is a call to stop deceiving ourselves by being hearers of the Word only and to become doers of the Word. It is a reminder that the breath in our lungs belongs to God, the blessings in our hands come from God, and the call on our lives is not about us.

It was never about the fish.

It was about obedience.

It was about repentance.

It was about surrender.

It was about Jesus.

If we are truly going deeper, our response should be less pride, less self, less excuses, less control, and more repentance.

Less of me. More of Him.
